A Personal Care Attendant (PCA) is defined as “someone designated or employed specifically to help the eligible person meet his/her personal needs and without whom the eligible person would not be able to ride.” According to this definition, individuals who assist persons with disabilities are only considered PCAs if they assist an eligible person who has TheHandi-Van Card with a PCA “Y” (yes) designation.
The City and County Department of Transportation Services has requested that we adhere to the following policy with regard to Personal Care Attendants:
EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, Personal Care Attendants will only be allowed to ride TheBus free of charge if the eligible person they are assisting has TheHandi-Van Card with a PCA “Y” (yes) designation.
Passengers who accompany or assist persons with disabilities who do not have TheHandi-Van Card with PCA “Y” (yes) designation are required to show a valid TheBus pass or pay the full fare.
We apologize for any inconvenience. If you would like to apply for TheHandi-Van card with the PCA “Y” (yes) designation, please call the City Department of Transportation Services Paratransit Operations Branch at 768-8300.
